Our History

AVIM&O opened in 1992 as a member practice of Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center, a coalition of board-certified veterinary specialists in the disciplines of emergency medicine and critical care, surgery, canine rehabilitation, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, eye care, neurology, and advanced imaging.

All three AVIM&O locations are co-located with 24-hour emergency practices that offer around-the-clock monitoring and intensive care for our patients. Our practice has grown alongside CVRC, adding a location in the Baltimore area and another in Columbia, Maryland. In 2023, our Baltimore team will relocate to a brand new, 40,000-square foot facility with an expansive dedicated space for our department.

Our team embodies our core principles of commitment, compassion, and competence towards our patients, clients and our referring veterinary community. It is our goal to function as an integrated, collaborative team while providing the very best care for each patient while balancing the needs and desires of our clients.

About the Area

AVIM&O’s three locations are centrally located in Maryland, with practices in Hunt Valley (relocating to Cockeysville in 2023), Annapolis, and Columbia. Each location offers unique amenities that will appeal to every type of personality and family.

In 2023, our Baltimore-area practice is moving to Cockeysville, a suburb north of the city in the rolling hills of renowned Maryland horse country. If you prefer city dwelling, Baltimore offers a host of neighborhoods from sleek, waterfront living in Port Covington to the pubs, bakeries and shops of Canton and Hampden.
